They provide vacuum up to 29.9 "HgV (0.1 mbar abs) with capacities from 2.35 to 904 cfm (4 to 1535 m³/hr) and pressure up to 21.8 psig (1.5 bar g) with capacities from 1.8 to 91.2 cfm (3 to 155 m³/hr). When used as a combined unit, vacuum up to -241 "H2O (-600 mbar) and pressure up to 241 "H2O (600 mbar) are available. Rotary vane vacuum pumps and compressors operate by compressing volume in order to increase pressure.

Elmo Rietschle rotary lobe blowers provide vacuum up to 29.92 "HgV (0.01 mbar abs) and pressure up to 14.5 psig (1 bar g) with capacities from 12 to 5050 cfm (20 to 8580 m³/hr). Similar to the rotary vane pumps, the rotary lobe blowers are also static compression systems, although the compression does not result from an internal volume reduction.
